It Turns Like a Cow

Hello!  Today was a beautiful Spring day here in Ohio with temps in the 50s, so it was a perfect day to take the Tandem Relaxing Bike out for a spin.  We started at the park in downtown Chillicothe and rode past Hopewell.  It was a total of 19 miles.  We would have ridden longer, but the windchill was pretty cold. 

This is at the beginning of the trail, a really neat bridge.

Then we ride through some cut-out rocks.

I'm glad they cut them out for the trail, otherwise it would be a big hill.

This is my favorite kind of hill - DOWN.

Unfortunately, this is right at the bottom of that hill.

This is my non-favorite kind of hill - UP.

Oh yeah.... one mishap did occur on our ride.  The front chain fell off right after leaving Hopewell park on our return ride.  It went back on easily, thanks to Todd's handiness.  I should have taken a picture.   There's always next time, and let's face it - I'm here, so there will be a next time.

Here we go cruising down the hills.  You may hear a little bit of panic in my voice when I say to "hold on" at the very beginning.  Don't pay any attention to that.  Good thing the wind is noisy and blocks out  much of my rambling "holy moly...."

We had some more very dangerous hills after this where we almost tipped over, but I wasn't filming that part.  Figures.

Tandem Ride Number Two

Well, here we are on Day 2 of our Tandem Relaxing Bike ride.  We rode along the Tri-County Triangle Trail again and this time I brought my camera-around-my-neck, so I could take pictures as we ride.  This is easier on the tandem because I don't have to steer, brake, or shift.  

This is my view if I lean to the left a little bit.  This is one of the RR bridges on the trail.  In the summer, these bridges are HOT, but today that wasn't a problem at all.

Some water to our right.  You can see everything so much better without all the leaves on the trees.

Here is Todd pedaling along.  I've been staying well hydrated, so I really need a bathroom break.  There isn't one for miles and miles and miles and miles.  

Well, here is a valley or a basin, or some sort of dip in the terrain.

I love the way these plant things (whatever they are) look.

Oh boy Oh boy Oh boy!  Lookie there!  Those are bales of hay.  This is the perfect stopping area.

Here is a side view after I walked out from between them.  I'm not saying WHY I was between them, but I'm sure happy this farmer had them.

Here's another stream of water.  This is no where near those bales of hay, FYI.

I love passing the horse farm.

I also love watching our shadows.  I can see if I'm pedaling as fast as Todd.

This bridge has an overlook.  We didn't stop to look-over.  We kept on pedaling.

And we're almost back to the beginning.

This was a great 31 mile ride.  I'm looking forward to more fun rides on the Tandem Relaxing Bike.

We're off on a new adventure!  We love our trikes so much, that we decided to purchase a tandem trike the Terra Trike's Tandem Pro.  We ordered it last month from the fine folks at Fairfield Cyclery and it got here just in time for a beautiful Spring-like weekend!  Hopefully, I won't cause us to have too many flats....

The trike has couplers and comes apart for travel. Both pieces fit in the back of the Santa Fe.  This is Todd putting it together for our first ride. 

Here it is.... ready to roll!  Todd is the captain and I am the stoker.  Todd rides up front with the two tires, and I'm in the back with only one tire.  We figured it was safer that way.

Here we are on the Tri-County Triangle Trail taking a little break.

We rode about 25 miles our first ride.  It was great fun!

A lady on the trail saw us and called the trike "A Tandem Relaxing Bike." So that's what it shall be called.

It's been a while...

I haven't updated much since last Fall.  But that doesn't mean I haven't had any flat tires.

This one just happened while my trike was sitting in the garage minding its own business.

We ended up taking my bike to Peddlers to have the shifters worked on, oh yeah, and to get a new tire.

It's too cold in Ohio to ride outside, so we brought our trikes in to ride in the living room (with rollers for the back wheel).  Of course that doesn't mean I'm Flat Free.  My trike managed to get one flat (back tire) just sitting in the living room, minding its own business.  It sure made a lot of noise, it was quite an explosion.

Today we made our own ride from Frankfort to Washington Court House on the Tri-County Triangle Trail.  We stopped at Ranchers and had lunch.

Today we Pedaled for Pets.

It was an organized ride, but a little amusing...

We had to go around many barriers.  On bikes it's easy to go around, but on trikes?

Luckily we fit under the barriers easily.

We also had to ride on a closed road through a construction site.  We had to carry our trikes passed the big machinery in the road.  Luckily there was a port-a-potty at that site because I really needed it.

We did ride over this reservoir.  It was very scenic.

Danger danger, don't fall off.

Hancock Horizontal Hundred - September 9, 2012

Today we ride the Hancock Horizontal Hundred.  

I'm sort of cheating and only riding the 100k option, not the 100 mile option.  

This will be my furthest ride yet.

We get the trikes ready in the wee hours of the morning.

We crossed the interstate several times.
