The COOKIE Ride! 8/19/12

Today was the COOKIE ride!  It's the fundraising ride for the Tri County Triangle Trail.
We rode 51 miles... My first half-century.

There was a barn star counting contest and we won!  Todd and I counted 39 stars along the route and there were actually 41, but we came the closest.  I will get free admission next year.

Part of the ride is on the trail, and part of is was on surface streets.

The trail through Washington Court House goes through a pretty park.

It also goes along a murky river.

The street portion was hilly.  Up Up Up we go.

There were some very pretty views, though.

Pretty views to the right... but more hills ahead!

It was a great ride!

Saturday, 8/18/12, we rode the HockHocking Bikeway in Athens, Ohio.  We rode from end-to-end, and back (about 40 miles).  It was a beautiful day and a beautiful trail.  All photos were taken as I was riding my trike, so please excuse the crookedness.

Here, we saw deer along the trail.  They stayed there and didn't seem bothered that we were riding by.

Cool train bridge...

Here is a train that was full of people.  They were taking pictures of us as we drove by.

We passed some train graveyards.

I love the old abandoned trains.

Here we rode along the river, near Ohio University.

Todd reminded me I could flip my camera around and take a picture of myself.

I can't prove it, but I think Todd was trying to kick me in the head.

Here's another pretty shot along the river.

Not quite a flat tire, but close...

August 11 & 12, 2012

Todd and I decided to embark on our first overnight trike adventure!
We rode from home (Chillicothe, OH) to Portsmouth, OH.
It's about a 45 mile ride - one way.

We spent the night at the Holiday Inn, Portsmouth.
It was tricky getting our trikes in the very small elevator, but with much creativity, we were able to do it, one at a time.

Good thing my trike folds, we stowed it in the closet area of our room.

We had to move some of the furniture around for Todd's trike to fit.  Shh, don't tell the housekeepers.

This beautiful bride was near the hotel - it crosses the Ohio River to Kentucky.

Sunday morning, we decided to ride to Kentucky, just to say we did.

Welcome to Kentucky!

The ride home was crazy - the last 11 miles or so was straight up!  The hills were relentless.  I was so happy to get home.

This was my tire after we got home.  At one point, Todd rear-ended me and his chainring slashed my tire.  It didn't cause a flat, but he ordered me a new tire for next time.

Rib Tickler Ride, Saturday, August 4, 2012

Saturday, we rode 30 miles in the Rib Tickler Ride in London, Ohio.  It was a great organized ride and lots of fun.  It was brought to us by The Friends of Madison County Parks and Trails.  It started and ended at the London Rib and Jazz Festival.

I didn't get a flat tire, but my chain did fall off.  It was a pretty easy fix, though.
Here, Todd is inspecting everything.

Here we are over the interstate.

The opposite direction.

The sun is starting to come out.
And, boy did I pay for it.  I am fried to a crisp.  Apparently I didn't wear enough sunscreen.

We rode along many nice country roads.

My favorite part (besides the food) was this huge sunflower field.  I love sunflowers.

The ride ended at the London Rib and Jazz Festival.  Todd had some deep fried sauerkraut and I had a rib sampler.  For dessert, we visited a local ice cream shop.  It was really hot, so the ice cream was very refreshing.
